Our Governing Body
- To take a strategic role in the running of the schools
- To act as a critical friend to the schools
- To ensure accountability of the Governing Body to the parents and of the Headteacher to the Governing Body
Mrs Sarah Hutchinson
I am thrilled to be the Head Teacher of both Greenhead and Henshaw Church of England Primary Schools. It is a real privilege to work in such special schools with a fantastic staff team. I am committed to ensuring that our schools can provide the very best opportunities for all our children. I particularly value our Christian ethos, inclusive settings and warm family atmospheres.
I have been teaching in Northumberland for over 10 years, previously working as a class teacher in a large Primary School in Whitehaven. I have a genuine love of learning and I am a firm believer in life-long learning. Whilst the education of our pupils is clearly our number one priority I also strive to make Greenhead and Henshaw Schools learning places for all. Supporting parents in supporting their children’s learning is a key area of our continuing development, as is providing professional development opportunities for all our staff. Children are at the heart of all we do across our federation and as Head Teacher and Governor all actions taken always have the best interests of the children at their core.
Outside of the job I enjoy spending time with my family; my husband, two young children and a very active miniature Jack Russell!
Chair of Governors
In my working life I was Headteacher of 3 (mainly CE) primary schools and in retirement an Associate Tutor at University of Cumbria, attached to Greenhead and Henshaw schools. I live in Hexham and am Lay Chair of Hexham Deanery and a member of the Newcastle Diocese Education Board. (49!)
I was elected as a parent governor in September 2014 for a 3 year term as a parent of 2 children within the federation and I became Chair of Governors in September 2016. I am self employed as an Equestrian Coach & livery yard Owner/Manager and along side my Husband also Farm cattle and sheep on our family farm. I am an active member of the community serving as a parish councillor and I am regularly involved in local fundraising events. I am dedicated to the staff & pupils of the West Tyne Federation. I am looking forward to the current academic year as part of the team that challenges the schools to perform to the best of their ability and to ensure all children achieve to the very best of their potential.
Mrs Joanne Fairless
I have been Vicar of Haydon Bridge and Beltingham with Henshaw, and so “ex officio” Governor in the West Tyne Federation since October 2014. I am passionate that the Church continues to play a vital role in the life of our communities, especially in our schools. Before ordination I worked in University education and retain an interest in teaching and academic research.
I have been a School Governor for over twenty years which I think demonstrates the importance that I place upon Education.
It is a great privilege to have a Church School in the Parish and to work together with parents, staff and pupils, to ensure we provide the very best education we can in our school. My other interests include a love of music, photography and travel.
Mrs Katy Rushworth
I am a solicitor specialising in property law at Clarke Mairs LLP in central Newcastle. I live in Thorngrafton with my husband and one-year-old daughter, Alice, who will attend Henshaw School when she’s old enough.
I am aged 52 and I have been a Governor of Greenhead School for over 20 years. I have previously served as Chairman of the Governing Body and also Chairman of the West Tyne Federation when the local Church Schools all merged together.
I am also Chairman of Greenhead Pre-School and Nursery which is a registered charity. I have been the District Councillor for Greenhead since 1987 and the County Councillor since 2008. I am an associate with Land Factor and I manage the Haltwhistle Office and manage local estates. I am particularly keen to get the best education for all of the children and to get good facilities and I have been involved in many projects on behalf of the school and local community over the years.
