Executive Headteacher's Message

Welcome to our school, our community and our place of learning.  At Henshaw Church of England Primary School, we work together to guide our children to be inspired, believed in, supported and achieve highly through a broad and balanced curriculum and a Christian vision driven by our core values.  We also work closely with our partner school – Greenhead CE Primary School – to utilise teaching and learning expertise across our Federation.

Henshaw CE Primary School is a place where children start their learning journey; we firmly believe that wisdom begins in wonder.  Therefore, we have designed our curriculum to be engaging, exciting and driven by the needs of our children who come from our local area.  Children are challenged in becoming confident and independent young people, who thrive in their time with us and are motivated to learn.

All schools have their own distinctive ‘feel’ which makes each one unique. We believe that the ‘special feel’ at Henshaw Primary comes from our caring, supportive and friendly environment which permeates every staff member and wall of our small school.

It is our firm belief that we are capable of so many amazing things and at Henshaw Primary School we ensure our children get the best possible start.  For us, it is vital that we give our children as many experiences as possible to ensure that they are well equipped to succeed in today's rapidly moving society.  Our expectations are consistently high; not just from ourselves as educators but of the children and families that are part of our community as well.

As you will see, Henshaw Primary is very much about community.  It is about forming sound and positive relationships built on mutual trust.  We have many opportunities for home and school to work closely together.  Parents and carers are welcomed to half termly Together Tuesdays with myself and other members of the team to share with our community the amazing things happening in school.  We also hold Workshop Wednesdays where families are invited into the school to explore how their children are learning in the classroom.  We believe in 'Celebrations of Learning' and we hold weekly celebration assemblies which highlight when members of our school have been role models in our school values.  We also hold curriculum events, coffee mornings, training sessions and class assemblies. We are all here to support the children, their families and their future – investing in tomorrow’s generation of our society.

The school was last inspected by Ofsted during a full inspection in December 2017 when we were judged to be ‘good’ in all the key areas of inspection, and in our overall effectiveness of provision.

Inspectors commented:

‘High expectations permeate all aspects of school life.’

‘Children quickly settle in because transition with the private nursery is effective and strong bonds are formed successfully with the children and their parents.’

‘Pupils say they are happy and well cared for and parents endorse this.’

I am extremely proud to lead a team that is committed to children's well-being, achieving high standards and providing the very best opportunities for all in our care.  Staff, supported by governors, work hard to help children acquire the skills and enthusiasm needed to embrace the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

To find out about our school, we encourage you to come and visit, to see us in action and meet staff and children. A call to the school office on 01434 344324 is all that is needed to arrange this.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school, and to a happy and successful partnership with all our new children and families.

Best Wishes,

Michael Glenton NPQH, MEd, BSc (Hons)
